Speaker(s): Michael Cohen Director of the Computational Photography Group at Facebook
Summary: In this talk I will take us through my personal path from an artist to a computer scientist to a mix between art and science. Touching on parts of my own work, I will discuss how computer graphics and computational photography has progressed from obviously non-real scenes, to realistic ones, to more expressive or subjective uses of imagining technology. In much the same way, our historic understanding of media has progressed from providing artistic impressions of reality, to objectively recording reality, and has now arrived at a state where we do not know what is real and what is not, with all its implications for art and technology.
Speaker(s) Bio: Michael is the director of the Computational Photography Group at Facebook and is also an Affiliate Professor at the University of Washington. He arrived at Facebook after two decades at Microsoft Research. Previously he served on the faculties at Princeton and Cornell Universities.
