Intended Audience: People with some knowledge on multimodal interaction techniques who want to get to a broader state of the art and also a quick entry to the embodied machines (Virtual Humans and Social Robots) as extended partners of a multimodal multiparty interaction.
Organizer: Daniel Thalmann, EPFL, Switzerland. Prof. Daniel Thalmann is a pioneer in research on Virtual Humans. He has been the Founder of VRlab, EPFL, Switzerland. He is coeditor-in-chief of the Journal of Computer Animation and Virtual Worlds. He received his PhD in Computer Science in 1977 and an Honorary Doctorate from University Paul- Sabatier in Toulouse, France, in 2003. He also received the Eurographics Distinguished Career Award in 2010 and the 2012 Canadian Human Computer Communications Society Achievement Award.

Summary: This course will discuss the Interaction between real humans, virtual humans and social robots. Three main aspects will be covered: 1) Action Recognition in Social Robots and Virtual Humans 2) Modeling Social Behaviour for Virtual Humans and Social Robots 3) Hand Motion and Grasping
